The Melvins are the brutally perfect music machine, no matter where their head is looking to, they always bring surprising and exciting music, even if it's not exactly new, yes, Three Men and a Baby is a record made in 1999, the surprising thing here, is how contemporary this record actually sounds! It doesn't sound exactly like a product of the early 00s, and it sounds definitely like The Melvins, despite it being a collaboration between the trio and Mike Kunka, bassist and singer from another band, for some reason unknown, this twin bass attack version of The Melvins recorded one album, but it never saw the light of day on Sub Pop, the legendary Seattle label where it was supposed to be realized, but now, almost 17 years after its making, we get the chance of listening to it.

Three Men and a Baby is definitely a punk rock record, it shows a powerful band not afraid to try new things and into having big fun, from slow burning guitars on Chicken n Dump, to the sonic exuberance of Limited Teeth, the band exudes danger and perverse fun, Bummer Conversation is down and dirty, enough to satisfy today's fans of the band, while on Annalisa, they salute legendary post punk band PiL.

Read the Label (It's Chili), sounds less furious than the rest of the songs, it gives a certain degree to the whole record while reminding me of Fugazi bass heavy music, and going into real rhythmically stuff in the heavily experimental Dead Canaries, but returning quickly to sinister heavy music on the fierce Pound the Giants, or in the sledgehammer attack of the evil Lifestyle Hammer.

Three Men and a Baby is not exactly a superb recording, but is better than a what a lot of bands are able to do these days, and it is definitely a step backwards from the better produced new Melvins records, nevertheless, is a quite amusing record that holds up great with today prolific attack of the band, and it's definitely a great "snack", as the band is ready to launch new material this year, besides that you know that whatever The Melvins are doing, they always manage to come back with a great surprise.
