Yes, Your
Mediocrity put Us in a Bad Mood

“If you're not in the mood, you
can't do that stuff right.”
J.D. Salinger
Mexico should be
growing at 5% rates, instead, growth in last years, growth estimates were
always adjusted to meet lower results, growing more than other economies in the
zone doesn't say much, Brazil, Argentina
and Venezuela's governments have done awful in economic matter, so there's no
point in comparing.
Mediocre actions
produce mediocre results, and that's exactly what is happening in Mexico, a
government's culture of doing half of the things, that end ups making half of the
job and producing half of what is needed, yes, there were the much publicized
structural reforms, but they weren't deep enough, and guess what? Results were
mediocre again, it worries me that EPN administration seems to be satisfied
with the results, that's really bad, it shows their attitude towards as
conformists, they look deeply satisfied for growth rates of 2.5%, certainly
bigger than the world's average rate of economic growth, but one too close the
USA rate, that shows that again Mexico is hanging on to the USA economy in
order to move forward instead of developing new strategies to create truly
independent, self-generated growth.
Now, consider that
although our northern neighbor is growing, their economy is not showing yet
definite signs of having solved the economic tribulations generated after 2008,
their economy is still on a fragile stage, and I bet they are far from
satisfied if how things are going on for them.
Enrique Peña Nieto
complains that there is a social bad mood in the country, and that it doesn't
let people appreciate how well his administration has done and how good things
are going on in the country, let's be honest, yes, economy is growing, we are
doing way better than how economy was doing in the 70s, we are doing better than
Brazil, Argentina or Venezuela, but 2.5% is not enough! Mexico needs not only
growing rates of 5%, but the adequate social reforms in order to let that
growth permeate to all the social sectors in the country, economic measures are
not enough when government has done awful when it comes to corruption,
inequality and insecurity, yes, the government has done just half of the job,
but it won't produce the desire results unless the whole package is completed,
so yes, Enrique, we are in a bad mood, your mediocrity put us in a bad mood, I
know mediocrity is enough for you, you even want receive applause for your
mediocrity, but Mexicans want and need more, do you have what it takes?
Now, start to
consider that if Trump gets close to become president, Mexico will need to grow
in its own, to develop economic strategies in its own, and stop hanging to our
neighbors success, this is the moment of truth, when things have to be done
fully, not halfhearted anymore.
