Been Mayor For Barely A Year Is Like Winning The Lottery.

A couple of months ago, Monterrey’s mayor Margarita Arellanes “put the city in the hands of god”, at the moment, people were outraged because of the intervention of the religious forms into the political acts, but I think that if you read between the lines, you can see a subtle way of putting the city’s safety and future in the hands of a higher power, but why? Was it a feeling of being incapable of handling the city? Was it the knowledge of something impossible to contain? Is the future of the city so bad? This happened months ago, today, we see the city being once again flooded with violence, the big difference this time is that the media is not covering it, they have been shut.

We are facing another intense way of violence in the city, in the state and in the country, the new government promise was to increase security and to handle the causes of violence and crime in the country, months pass and the solution starts to be seen farther than we ever thought, as if this wasn’t enough, we see Margarita Arellanes acquiring a $20 millions pesos house in an exclusive part of San Pedro, Nuevo Leon’s most opulent city, isn’t Monterrey safe enough for its mayor? And by the way, how is possible for a mayor who earns $ 100,000 pesos a month can buy a $20 millions pesos house? As you can see, Monterrey is not only in the hands of crime, but in the hands of corrupt authorities who act in deliberately corrupt ways to achieve richness.

Unclear contracts with providers, preferential opportunities for certain collaborators (who gave money for political campaigns), intolerance to others, heavy taxes, and the escalating violence seems to be corroding the city, hypocritical naming of god, what else could go wrong in the city? Is Margarita Arellanes leaving the city in the hands of god so she can continue with her dubious endeavors? Worst of all, she is aiming for the government of the state as a possible candidate for the PAN, the actual government is run by a PRI candidate, and it has been heavy questioned, so probably the PRI wont continue running the state government, but, the thing is, are we sure Margarita Arellanes is the next good choice for governor, given the fact that her acting has been dubious? Are we left, not with good choices, but less bad choices really? Are we voting for the best or for the lesser worst? Is our democracy really a tricky bitch that forces us to go either way (PRI or PAN) given the fact that they both are pretty much the same? We can “punish” the party in power by voting for the other, of course, but why punish ourselves by only having another bad choice?

We demand the clarification of Arellanes wrong or dubious doings, and definitely we need to look for another option, neither PRI nor PAN are exactly the current moral options for the good run of the city and for the state, we don’t need a politician to put the city or the state in the hands of god, we need as a society to put the city in the hands of responsible and moral people, people who work only for the city, for society, for the people, not for themselves, not for their own good, but for the good of all the citizens, it’s important to keep in mind the common good of all citizens, and to forget about political parties, political parties have done so much against our people, against our country and its time to start thinking about how to liberate us form this dictatorship of the political parties, or keep watching silent how poverty and crime ruin the country’s north capital while mayors and governors build their houses on the hill and between tall walls, like in the feudal times.

If Margarita gave god the keys of the city, will god be on the side of Margarita the day of elections for governor? to bad for all of us...
