Niall Darwen Dominates the Olympia Classic Physique 2026

 

After claiming fifth place at the 2025 Mr. Olympia Classic Physique, it seemed Niall Darwen locked into tunnel vision with no turning back. First place at the Pittsburgh PRO 2026. First place at the New York PRO 2026. We should have known what was coming. And we knew it from the very first call out of the Mr. Olympia Classic Physique 2026.

Darwen stood alongside Mike Sommerfeld and Ramon Dino. Dino looked out of shape. He tried to add mass up top and lost volume down below. Good intentions, poor execution. He was out of the title fight from the first call out, and he knew it instantly.

Mike Sommerfeld came up short again. For the third straight time, he finished just one step away from victory. It has to be said even if Mike doesn’t like hearing it. Chris Bumstead, Ramon Dino, and Niall Darwen have all beaten him. They’ve made him eat dust. Sommerfeld has no more room for improvement in his physique. He’s an imposing man, but he’d be better off in the 212 division, where he already competed in 2019, unleashing the freak he has inside. That imbalance between the legs that overpower everything and the torso that still needs more growth has become unsustainable. When he improves his conditioning and more details come through, there are no longer any changes that truly surprise.

I think Wesley Vissers deserved second place. I think Terrence Ruffin deserved third. This year’s contest was extremely tight, and once again Ramon Dino didn’t show up ready. He should have dropped to fifth, but his massive fame kept him afloat.

After Darwen, the biggest surprise was Wesley Vissers. What a way to bring the legs up and balance out the entire package. Vissers would have made a brutal second place.

But yes, Darwen took us all by surprise. He arrived with a winning streak, yet no one thought he could jump five places. Dino, Sommerfeld, Vissers, and Ruffin weren’t going to allow it. Darwen didn’t ask for permission, didn’t stop, and pulled off the incredible. In one of the most closely contested editions of the Olympia Classic Physique, he made it clear from the first call out that he was coming for everything. He left Sommerfeld and Dino behind and opened up a solid gap.

I’ll say it again: Vissers was the real challenger. A Mr. Olympia Classic Physique 2027 between Darwen and Vissers. I can’t wait to see it.
