Bob Dylan- Melancholy Mood (2016)
Bob Dylan- Melancholy Mood (2016)
By: Ghost Writer
Dylan sings
Sinatra, well that's the spirit of the songs on Melancholy Mood, an ep advance
of upcoming Fallen Angels record, Dylan again goes to visit a very particular
musical time, it's definitely a riot to listen to the legendary songwriter
covering someone else's songs, considering that Sinatra is more an interpreter
rather than a songwriter makes things even more surreal, but Dylan as a singer
is still interesting enough Has Dylan put songwriting aside? Perhaps, Is he an
outstanding singer, of course not he is a particular singer, and that's the
point here, is a matter more of curiosity than of relevancy, but Dylan makes a
quite amusing little recording here, the title track reminds me of something
Tom Waits would be eager to tackle, is a matter of fact, Dylan approach is
quite similar to what Waits could do with the song although less maniac of
course.
All or
Nothing at All is a song that requires more input from Dylan, and it results
miles better than the title track, here Dylan has the chance to add his
nostalgic vocals in an almost magical way to the song, one can definitely sense
the true love Dylan is able to inject into the tune, making this a true work of
love.
In a way in
a song like Come Rain or Come Shine one can truly sense Dylan turning into a
lounge lizard in the middle of clouds of smoke and in a dark corner, buy also
it brings to mind the fact that Dylan, in a way, has always been a lounge
lizard from another universe, and that's precisely again what works to his
advantage again in this song, but perhaps the biggest surprise, is listening
Dylan like a smart cat on That Old Black Magic, being able to catch and
recreate the song at full swing in such a graceful manner.
One may
argue that Dylan making covers is a bit of a fish out of the water thing, but
this old shark still has the bite and he is not getting any mellow with the
years, as he is able to get sharp as a knife when demanded to, and soulful as
one would expect at all times, Mr. Dylan simply shows that his monumental
talent is not only on songwriting, but on creating moods with his quite
peculiar voice.
Melancholy
Mood in the end is short and concise, a nice little surprise, is Dylan putting
his legend aside and having a little fun, and it ultimately works, it makes the
listener impatient for what it is about to come from this legend that even today
refuses to stop and keeps moving and surprising us with amusing grace.
