Entombed A.D.- Dead Dawn (2016)
Entombed A.D.- Dead Dawn (2016)
By: Ghost Writer
After a
failed record, Entombed A. D., this spin off from the original Death n Roll
band, is back with a new record called Dead Dawn, this time decided to get back
on track to where the original band left off, Entombed, the original one, was
one of the greatest death metal bands to ever come out of Sweden, the band that
taught Earache bands to swing as if their lives depended of it, give thanks to
Entombed for records like Carcass' Necroticism and Napalm Death's Harmony
Corruption, it was Entombed whom thanks to the classic Left Hand Path set the
path for ultra-heavy bands to marry blast beats and infectious guitar riffs,
giving birth to the so called Death n Roll subgenre.
Now, back
to Dead Dawn, a record that immediately sets off with the adrenaline rush of
Midas in Reverse, no, not the Hollies tune that Crosby, Stills & Nash made
famous, but an original one, this time, drums and guitars sound better than
ever display that great instrumental interplay that made the Swedes so good in
their early days, perhaps, is the little subtle inclination towards prog metal
that made previous record such a deception, this time, prog rock still appears,
but in a more streamlined fashion, with works in advantage of the overall
effect, but the real heavyweight themes start with the title track, with
Entombed's trademark electric saw guitars and solid drum beats, singer Lars
Goran Petrov is lethal as ever, one of the indisputably best growers in the
scene, and the band working their magic all over again.
Don't be fooled
by Down to Mars to Ride acoustic intro, the Swedes are not mellowing yet, as
they quickly create another great groovy piece of Death n Roll here, mixing
rocking heavy guitars and sympathetic drumming, Wolverine Blues era rears its
head on this track, but Dead Dawn is no mere evocation of the past, it toys
with it, like on the Left Hand Path-ish Total Death which rocks brilliantly
showing that the band is still capable of writing great music, just check out
the infectious riffing on The Winner has Lost.
Dead Down
is an exciting return from one of the most exciting rock n roll bands of the
last decades, the fact that Entombed or Entombed A. D. managed to create a
sound all of their own using rock n roll dirty swagger, dynamic drumming and
their trademark guitars, are pillars of an unbreakable band that refuses to go
away so easily, a band whose sound is so well crafted, that can return at any
time and prove they are simply the best at what they do making great fucking
heavy rock n roll.
