Jambinai-
A Heritage (2016)

South Asia seems
to hold the key to the future of the world, a less Westernized civilization and
with a more active influence from countries like South Korea, Singapore,
Indonesia, Vietnam and Malaysia, from these bunch, it seems that is South Asia
the bone destined to lead the region in order to establish the zone as one of
the most prominent economic players in the world markets in a near future, and
just as South Korea has managed to become an indisputable innovator in the
fields of education, technology and innovation, artistically, SK also has some
hidden secrets to waiting to take over the world in the form of the superb
music combo known as Jambinai.
Despite sounding
like an ultra-modern band, it steals my attention the fact that the band has
very deep roots in Korean folk music tradition, picking up some native
instruments to up the level of a intensity of their already too volatile mix,
an apparent connection with post rock is a little vague and unable to properly
define what this band is all about, formed by three musicians from Seoul in
2009, the wall of sound this band is capable of creating is truly spine
chilling and trance inducing in a way I haven't heard before.
A Heritage is the
band's latest recording featuring brutal aural assaults right from the
beginning, on the aptly titled Abyss in which something like the doors to hell
seem to open right away in front of us, the band playing their instruments in a
merciless way, producing astonishing destructive sounds than would immediately
make jealous guys like Germany's Einsturzende Neubauten, Indonesia´s Senyawa or Japan's Boredoms,
not seeming to have any trouble to appeal to any hardcore or metal fan.
So before thinking
that musically South Korea is all about bizarre black metal kids like Pyha or K
Pop glossy weird world stars like Psy, give yourself a chance to listen to what
could easily become one of the best records to come out this year, a band with
boundless imagination and power, a band destined to change everything we think
we know about South Korea's music scene creating such me of the most out there,
unexpected and innovative sounds you are about to hear about in 2016, missing
Jambinai is simply missing a chance to listen to the future today.
