The More Things Change
The More Things Change

“If you're not
careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being
oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing.”
Malcolm X
Why is it
that apparently politically incorrect figures like Alexis Tsipras, Marine Le
Pen and Donald Trump are suddenly gaining so much ground in the political
circles in their countries? Are their populist policies coming from the
extremes of right and left wings finally showing real solutions to the
situation in their nations? Dangerously high social spent and anti-immigration
policies doesn't seem to be the answers to the recurrent crises of our times.
In France,
Francoise Hollande and the socialists lose ground to Le Pen and her ultra-right
wing leanings, in order to counteract this, well known Nicholas Sarkozy is
brought back into the political stage, but rumors of middle east dictators
financial backing on his previous campaign could sink him gas in the middle of
society current mixed up feelings toward migration.
After
Syriza's Alexis Tsipras recently announced resign as prime minister of Greece,
leaving the people of this country to decide between Tsipras empty promises and
the traditional politicians, corrupt and irresponsible that precipitated Greece
current situation from the beginning.
Hard to
believe that in the so called land of the free, a violent and intolerant
character like Donald Trump is leading the pre candidate polls and becoming
more popular than any of the other Republican Party candidates, it seems that
people are not only tired of moderate conservatives, but also of Democrats and
any other common politician in general, people want a radical departure in
politics even though it could mean literally jumping from the cliff, welcome to
Amerikistan!
As in the
rest of the world, in Mexico you can blame no one else for populism rise,
except traditional politicians, is their fault that by not offering more
efficient solutions to economic distress, they have laid the perfect template
for radical and demagogues to stand on, is not the triumph of the populists
policies, is the failure of traditional politics, and while closeted
authoritarian Andres Manuel Lopez gains momentum, major parties like the PRI
sets the course towards the party's dictatorial past and gets closer to the
PRI-government, while the presidents announces changes in his office, we found
out that is more of the same, no “in´s” or out´s”, just a game of changing
chairs; This while the PAN (the right wing party) tries to mask their
corruption infected political base and the desperate PRD (the left wing party)
searches for an outsider to lead a party that has not been able to lead itself,
welcome to Mejikistan! And welcome to some of our own worst nightmares, as we
are immersed in the middle of a global conspiracy aimed to destroy our
incipient democracies and install iron fist authoritarian regimes with fear as
its principal weapon, these days with the arrival of horrible beyond nightmares
things like the Islamic State it’s obvious that people will prefer ruthless
dictators like Gadhafi or Hussein to extremists like Al Qaeda or IS, that works
in favor of conspirators, as we are pushed into a battle to escape
brainwashing, and to paraphrase Malcolm X, to try to save ourselves from end up
loving the oppressor.
