Mescaleros is a red hot 5 piece band from a Spain that inhabits a curious place between hard rock and early heavy metal, their music is enthusiastic, led by the Gijon brothers and carrying a highly volatile arena anthemic rock n roll with certain glimpses at Southern Rock bands like ZZ Top, Black Oak Arkansas or Credence Clearwater Revival, singer Amadeo Gijon is a guy who seems like a curious cross between Jim Dandy, Ted Nugent and John Fogerty all rolled into one single crazy humanbeing, with gravelly voice that definitely commands attention and he sound like a madman in a mission in front of a band of outlaws, opener Sick and Thick is the perfect wild party started as the band make a definite declaration of principles, sex, drugs and rock and roll, all this while dancing between nasty hard rock guitar lines, caveman like primitive drums, and a bass solo that could make Cliff Burton jealous.

Guitars on Link for Dream are stuff of legend, a tune that rocks with Fogerty like fire and tremendously catchy chorus, if something this band is incredibly apt to, is to write infectious grooved, but the band also goes for the power ballad with a certain southern accent on Cries in the Night, or the dark on the edges Feel My Pain, but is on the Fallen Angel-Ride the Wind like Alive where the band creates truly inspiring and charming guitar riffs played at vertiginous speed they it’s impossible not to appreciate the potential this Spanish band has.

But this anthemic band has also a heavy side, as evidenced on Breakout, an intense piece with churning and marauding guitars and bass, or the metallically intense Fire, a piece that definitely shows the band developing a very unique identity.

Lynyrd Skynyrd on speed us how I could describe the powerful Deep America and its piercing guitar intro, derivative, perhaps, but nevertheless impaired and played with passion and muscle, just as on the albums final piece, the bluesier metallic discharge Black Soul a tune that leaves us full of adrenaline with lots vibrant guitars and lethal rhythm section.

It's strange, very strange to get this type of stuff coming from Spain, a country known more for flamenco or pop music, but it definitely grabs my attention in s big way, the high energy concept behind this powerful band, a band that deserved recognition far from the borders of their native country, with music played with this passion, success should not be too far from Mescaleros reach, this stuff is pure gold.
