Extreme Noise Terror- Extreme Noise Terror (2015)

Using the name of the band to title your new record (not being it your debut) is quite an strong musical statement, it could either be a completely new start for the band or the re embracing of their musical roots, in the case of UK's Extreme Noise Terror it could be a little bit of both, although the band is not changing their classical extreme sound (noise) not even a bit, but the band seems to be making an effort to stick to their roots, while also presenting themselves to a new generation of radicals taking the streets in the UK these days, no coincidence that politics are getting controversial these recent days, with the first Muslim mayor of a big European city, with Cameron disavowing Republican candidate Donald Trump, Boris Johnson campaign and n favor of Brexit, and of course, the populist UKIP.

Punk Rock Patrol is just like that, are embracing of the band's raw punk aesthetics, in a way Extreme Noise Terror is more Napalm Death than Napalm Death, they weren't as heavy as ND, but they were always more daring, more political and more punk, they pioneered the twin vocal attack, a mix of shrieks and grunts that ND still sticks to these days, and if we speak of politics, ENT have lots to talk about, this band might be as political as classic Crass, but taking their cues from the frenzied hardcore of the almighty Discharge(whom they might be paying homage to in Dogma, Intolerance, Control), just check out the sinister opening guitars and the immediate chaos it follows, this is band for hardcore fans who will undoubtedly love the whirlwind they liberate on the track, its lightning fast and the heavy as hell.

On No One is Innocent, the band goes for a more multi-dimensional sound, with guitars going from more riff based stuff to atonal punk blasts, drums also go from tribal sounding to intense blast beats, while both vocalists trade furious screams, the band moving furiously from infectious punk to balls out grindcore, reminding us of a time when Napalm Death and ENT were unique forces to be reckoned in the UK, as pioneers of the so called grindcore music, with ETN sticking to their punk rock roots and ND looking for a more metal oriented sound, anyway, ENT can be as heavy as any death metal band whenever they wish and here's the proof.

Think Outside the Box is another amazing tune with impressive drum arrangements and deep grinding guitars, the band wastes no time in fancy ornaments for their music, they go right to the jugular, while on Chained & Crazed drums and guitars get so amazingly tight that makes truly amusing to listening to such devastating attack, making even space on tracks like An Endless Cycle of Misery where the bad gives itself a chance to try some new things and get a little crazy on some dynamics.

I guess of all the bands I was expecting to make music in order to reflect the situation of the world these days, ENT are the ones who have captured the moment with more sheer brilliance and anticipation on Sheep on Wolf's Clothing, considering that this record was made last year, it’s even more amazing that ENT were foreseeing was what about to happen in the USA with Trump or the suit and tie rise of the Far Right in Europe.

There are lots of prodigious blast of noise all along the record, songs like Last Fix of Fame, Cage Paralysis or the punishing Only in It for the Music Pt. 27, are weighty reasons to still believe in ENT as one of the best extreme music bands in the world, as well as some of the most vigilant on their surroundings, this is a bad on a true head collision with their music, fighting fit a world not destined to exist.
