This is the Moment

“Just as we develop our physical muscles through overcoming opposition -
such as lifting weights - we develop our character muscles by overcoming
challenges and adversity.”
Stephen Covey
Again we are facing adversity, my Little children are
at school, almost an hour from the place where I work, god only knows what´s going
on in the head of a father or a mother when a tragedy like the one happened in
México City (CDMX) yesterday, to ignore if your little ones are ok, to ignore
in whose hands are at the moment, even to ignore if they are dead or alive at
the moment, that´s most be the darkest days in a man or a woman´s lives, I live
in Monterrey, earthquakes doesn’t happen here, but in CDMX earthquakes are
common, the city was hit by a really big one (he most powerful registered in
the last 100 years) a week ago; Yesterday, in the anniversary of the “Big One”,
in September 19, 1985, another one happened, this time, it was devastating,
more than 100 victims, many buildings collapsed, once again civil society
giving the best of themselves, filling the streets ready to help in recue maneuvers,
in many ways we are a divided country, but when tragedy strikes, it’s really
moving to witness that we are one, it’s a feeling of impotence to witness
what´s been going on in the capital city of this country, it´s the same feeling
I had as a kid, when I arrived home in 1985, I walked two blocks from school to
my house, that day my mother was on the telephone, visibly shocked, I remember
her words “it was a big one…”, I asked her what was going one, she didn’t tell
me nothing, I had the habit of watching some TV while I eat after coming from school,
that day there was no national TV, just local channels, the regular TV programs
coming from Mexico City were nowhere to be seen, it was just static, a void, on
local TV, the news were about the earthquake, Mexico City was totally in ruins,
a city characterized by its tall buildings was now a big bunch of rocks,
confusion was the main factor, those image of people above the ruins desperately
removing rocks, trying to find people underneath it all, that day something was
born in the country, and t stayed dormant for 32 years, I must say that as Mexicans
we were ready for yesterday since 32 years ago, this was the moment we weren’t wishing
to happen but we were ready for it to come, if something left us that September
19, 1985, was the mission of being one once again when the situation demanded
it, I must say that my friends on the capital are there, sleepless and moving
rocks, trying to save as much lives as possible, those of us, far from there,
are looking for ways to help them, looking for ways to provide them with what´s
more required in this moments, water, canned food, toilet paper, when tragedy
strikes, we must act as one, not a second for division, if you want to help,
look for the way that best suits you and help, information is primordial in
this moment, use the networks wisely to communicate, to spread vital
information; When you are hit very hard, you get into shock, it takes times for
the hit to start aching, so the worst is yet to come, when we realize how hard
we have been hurt, when we realize what we have lost, when we realize what´s
gone from our lives, it´s a natural tragedy where there’s no one to blame, but
there is plenty of chance to demonstrate what we are made of, this is the moment
we all were born for, this is the true battle for the man, to fight and triumph
against and over adversity, these might be our really darkest ours, but it´s
the moment when what´s within us must shine, just a little help, multiplied by
millions Mexicans, will surely make the difference, this is about what´s matter
the most, LIFE, and depending on the size of the tragedy, I can assure, that’s exactly
the same amount of strength we will build from it.
