A New Play for the World Theater of Power
A New Play for the World Theater of Power
“There is no avoiding
war; it can only be postponed to the advantage of others."
Niccolo Machiavelli

A couple of
days ago we were struck by the remarks of the painful September 11 events, it
was a date that, just as much as the day the Berlin Wall fell down, ended up
changing the world forever, the fall of the Berlin Wall signaled the end of
communism, the end of the common enemy that justified the Cold War arms race,
secret polices and foreign intervention all over the world, Francis Fukuyama,
idealistically signaled this event as the end of history but he wasn't aware
that the ever present "architects of fear", great followers of the
philosophy of Leo Strauss, were lurking in the shadows ready to build
"history" all over again, which take us to September 11, the beginning
of a new history, a new world and a new " common enemy": Terrorism.
Today the
world may agree that the Islamic State is the common enemy of the East and the
West, What could be better than instead of East against West, we get a new foe?
One to unite the world in order to destroy them, that makes me think if the
Islamic State is precisely an Islamic based group or another infiltrated group
serving someone else´s orders, as documents demonstrate, was happening to Al
Qaeda, first, when the “evil empire” and the menace of communism gave up its
place to terrorism.
These days,
the rise of the Islamic State as the second phase of the so called Arab Spring
becomes another world chapter, that, just as September 11 helped to strengthen
the Republicans authoritarian hold on the U.S., it could be used once again to
put democracy aside and once again, strengthen authoritarian rule, indirectly,
we saw this in Egypt and Nigeria, where authoritarian rulers were
democratically elected in the middle of internal turmoil in order to give
direction to the country, as it's citizen perceived that chaos and religious
extremism were far more dangerous than a dictator, in places like Iraq and Libya,
that perception is starting to grow, in the end burying the notion that the
Arab Spring rose truly from social unrest, but from a media and social network
manipulation, giving in fact a cold Arab winter as its final chapter.
September
11 turned the tables in favor of Republican president Bush, and nowadays the
rise of IS could help despicable characters like Donald Trump become even more
popular, the U.S. partner in middle east, president Erdogan in Turkey, could
benefit also, given the fact that chaos could drive the Turkish people to seek
security in Erdogan's iron fist, on the other side, Vladimir Putin's regime in
Russia is another regime benefited by creating enemies, as Putin place as
president strengthened as terrorism supposedly coming from regions like
Chechnya were the perfect excuse for Putin to develop more and more
authoritarian policies in Russia, now a days, terrorism again results
beneficial to Mr. Putin, as Islamic radicals leave Russia looking to join the
Islamic State, that way, Putin in a way cleans his country and gets the chance
to protect his close ally, Syrian dictator Bashar al Assad, remember years ago,
Putin became the poster boy for world peace after he prevented the U.S. from
taking military actions in Syria against al Assad violently repressive regime,
so here's the chance for al Assad to pose along with Erdogan as saviors of the
world by joining forces to battle the Islamic State, as both rulers became
puppets of bigger figures and democracy can be put in hold, leaving room for
authoritarian to reign, and to set the stage, if Putin is caught off guard, for
another Saudi oil crunch, like the one created to weaken the USSR, as German
politics philosopher Karl Marx once said: " history repeats itself, first
as a tragedy and next as a farce", in the end, just as much as the USSR
was a creation of political powers like the U.K. and the U.S., the Islamic
State is the continuation of the sadly fake Arab Spring in order to start
weakening democracies and perpetuating authoritarian rulers just for the
convenience of the big powers in the shadows.
