Follakzoid- II (2013)
Follakzoid- II (2013)

flowers but you cannot keep spring from coming.”

After
listening to The Holydrug Couple´s almighty dreamy project, I decided to dig
even deeper in Chilean psychedelia, and an obvious step into this world of futuristic
thinking, ancient spirituality and pragmatism, is Follakzoid, another band from
the sound whom seem to be as forward thinking as the already mentioned THC, and
whom are just as capable of delivering another southern musical jewel.
A couple of
years ago, Follakzoid issued their second record, and believe me II is one hell
of a record, taking psychedelia right into the space (or kosmische) and establishing a direct link toward
Germany's great krautrock, a powerful bass and a really steady beat are the
first elements we encounter when entering this really heavy trip, bright and
resounding synthesizers follow quickly the same path, as we end up traveling
down a cosmic autobahn, in a way this Chilean band has managed to recreate with
perfection some of the music the mighty Can and Neu! conjured decades ago in
near obscurity, 9 is a perfect opener showing the mastery the band has achieved
in reproducing the motorik sound, that "apache" beat created by Klaus
Dinger in the streets of Dusseldorf.
Rivers
introduce us into more dynamic beats closer to the almighty Can, and leaning a
little bit towards the drumming of the legendary Silver Apples while evoking a
little bit the cosmic black magik of a band like the great Wooden Shjips, for
Trees one can imagine the mighty Jaki Liebezeit, the man-machine drummer of
Can, as the drums maintain awesome dynamics rhythms and let the guitars gets a
lot more wilder in order to put us in a deep trance.
Pulsar
might be the central piece on this record, and it shows in the way the band
slowly build the amazing tune, first the tremendous interplay of drums and
bass, and then the guitars and synthesizer, finally with the bass leading the
melody perfectly flanked by the keyboards which help a lot to create the perfect
atmosphere, the right space for this amazing freak out, a superb exercise in
trance inducing lines, psychedelics, telepathic interplay and out of this earth
endurance.
Without a
doubt, Follakzoid is a direct sign of a cultural change and of a country which
foresees the world as its cosmos, with boundless imagination and a place as
citizens of the world, not confined to a country, to a language or to a
continent, this is a universal triumph, the sound of a world coming closer, it
might be no surprise that they might not be too well known in their homeland,
México, Brazil, Argentina or Chile might not be ready for them, but the whole
world and a few of us are already listening, and what a joy it results.
