Health matters as we travel into the Void
Health matters as we travel into the Void
“Conspiracies do
exist. Probably in this moment in New York there is an economic group making a
conspiracy in order to buy three banks. But if they succeed, they are
immediately discovered.”
Umberto Eco

I don’t wish
death to any of my enemies, I don’t even have enemies, but let´s think a little
bit and lest be honest here, face it, whether you like it or not, whenever you
see a picture Mexico's president Enrique Pe帽a Nieto in the press, he looks
skinnier and skinnier picture after picture, is understandable that the man is
under big pressure, that being at the front of the country with the PRI
baggage, the volatile conditions of today's world and the worst public approval
for a presidency ever (only being sparse perhaps by some of the lamest
opposition ever), it might be possible that as rumors go, if EPN is sick of
some acute degenerating disease, it’s only a matter of time that his condition
worsens within months, and the big worry here is what will happen if EPN health
degradation creates a big vacuum in the center of the country government? It
would be naive to think that his party, the PRI isn't aware of EPN condition,
and it isn't too crazy to think that they already have a plan, as they have
always had one in the past.
With a government that has done so many incredibly stupid things in the past 4 years (some of them even without realizing it), it won't be a surprise that even the weakest opposition is already planning a way to take advantage in any absence of power that can occur, if something happens to EPN and that the replacement named by his party will take the country by storm, shaking violently the already fragile relationship of the government and the citizens, as the there is no currently strong figures within the PRI that could serve as successors, and the party is really running out of air flanked strongly by populist Andr茅s Manuel Lopez’s MORENA and the menace of the so called “independent candidates”.
In the case of fellow Latin American countries, the health of leaders has been treated as a big state secret, just think about Fidel Castro health condition, which became a case of continuous rumors for his occasional public apparitions and fast deteriorating figure, think again about Hugo Chavez, dictator of Venezuela before Nicolas Maduro, whose cancer condition was hidden by his staff for months in the middle of an electoral period, largely believed that even his death was occulted for a couple of days in order to gain advantage against a quick regrouping opposition (as Chavez live or death was hidden in Cuba precisely).
In the end, is not just about a man's health, is about the future, security and stability of a country, of a whole nation, is about transparency and honesty, and about a process that is a main concern of the whole Mexican population, if something of this sort is happening right now in the country, it will undoubtedly become another serious blow to the government credibility, one that could definitely become the end (once again) of the PRI.
It seems that again our country is in the beginning of another turbulent chapter in history, that we are entering another period that might teach us a big lesson, another step towards the maturity of our country and a dangerous leap towards the future, as we enter the void is important to be prepared, we lack a strong country and a weak state of law, so hiding the truth might not work the same way as in other authoritarian regimes, it could mean a serious blow to the stability and strength of Mexico in a moment of weak instability.

Who could
be the successor in case of a fatal end? Beltrones and his mafia like approach
to politics? Manuel Velasco lack of experience and EPN like usage of expensive
image campaigns? Luis Videgaray and his inept economical theories? Osorio Chong
and his weak approach to governability? None of them seem like good choices I
guess…but if all this is just another rumor, it is still no good.
