A New Wall is coming up in Germany

“Socialism is the gradual and less violent form of communism, and socialist is the project of the European Union, which was born in Maastricht in 1992. The intent was to save socialism in Europe after the fall of the Berlin Wall and the predictable bankruptcy of the welfare state in the West as well.”

Vladimir Bukovsky

The construction of the infamous Berlin Wall started in 1961, it was the beginning of a city, a country and a world turn apart in two fractions, it meant the start of the Cold War, and a continuous fight between left and right that we still live its consequences these days, that wall came down finally in November 9, in 1989, the world seemed destined to chance forever after that date, some thinkers talked about the end of a civilization and the start of a new one, the world changed, but not forever, perhaps we just move in circles, who knows.

After 26 years of unification, it seems that Germany is slowly being divided again, but this time Germany is not defeated and tore apart by the Allies, this time, Germany, in many ways an exemplary country for Europe, as we all know Germany has a dark past that it might be better not to be removed, the fact that is one of the still economically growing economies in Europe, resisting with pure talent and will, not to succumb to stagnation, it seems that finally it is falling apart at the seams on certain matters, migration one of them as movements as the so called Pegida are gaining strength on the streets, and as Pegida acolytes demand, they want immigrants out of their country, a fact that is started to divide what took so much to unite and that has too much significant to the free world.

Just a couple of months ago, the conflict with Greece incapacity to pay its debts, started to wake up uncomfortable feelings within the country, a certain part of the population felt that Germany was carrying the whole weight of the European Union and xenophobic ideas started to be heard more and more, as the welfare state in most EU countries started to get weak, add to that Angela Merkel's laudable actions towards receiving immigrants and demanding the rest of the EU to do so, only helped to create more and more sympathies for the anti immigration movement, making it today a matter of population divided clashing on the streets a part demanding massive deportation, the other demanding toleration, almost three decades ago it was a wall, now, is intolerance, the world crisis, which we haven't been able to overcome is still bringing some of the worst things within us, and in Europe's intollerance towards immigrant could lay Europe's own economical stagnation as countries like Portugal, Greece and Spain starts to see their population aging fast enough, making it impossible for any welfare state to work efficiently as most population start to retire from the work force and the weight of the country starts to lay on fewer backs.

Whether nationalist, ultra nationalist, conservatives, Christians, Catholics, far right wingers, populist or neo-Nazis want it or not, Immigration holds the biggest clue to European future survival, as shown in Stockholm, one of the old continent faster growing populations, is in the proper assimilation of immigrants that Europe could find the detonator and inyection of young blood so much needed to survive an agging crisis in their populations, as we know, the world is getting old, and welfare states need younger blood to stay vital and to carry the weight of the older generation.

Germany is going to have a tough time keeping their past there, in the past, while looking for the future, with one if the fastest aging populations in Europe a well-managed immigration policy could be the key to keep this powerful European motor going on strong and leading the EU out of the world crisis and whatever is to come, unity is also the key, together it will stand, divided again, it could fall.
