Yesterday,
although tight, moderation triumphed, the smart vote that bets on the balance,
after two years without a clear response, the Democratic Party received the
vote of confidence from the electorate and Trump received a strong setback
after two years in which the Republican Party had all the power in their hands,
the strong polarization continues, and even increases, but this time the
Americans have chosen not to give all the power to Trump in the Chambers, in
realizing that promise of moderation, the advance of the Democratic Party is
still a mystery that will be unveiled over time, since the strategy is still
absent, cohesion is still missing in the Democratic Party version and a
coherent narrative that allows them to unify and strengthen, yesterday was only
shown that Trump he has not fully complied with his commitments to the
American, he is running out of trust and the political capital deposited in
him, the Americans have not voted fully convinced by the Democratic Party,
Americans have voted disillusioned in large part of Trump, this is how the
Democratic Party has regained the House of Representatives, despite retreating
a bit in the Senate, and have managed to get 22 gubernatorial Democrats against
25 Republicans.
Diversity
and youth could be the great winners of the midterm elections, and it is
something that is certainly a cause for celebration, in recent trips to the US
I have seen that marvelously cultural diversity flourishing in the neighboring
northern country despite the nationalist and even racist rhetoric of its
president, the multicultural melting pot does not stop and remains the basis of
the wealth of our northern neighbors, we have seen the triumph of Jared Polis,
in Colorado, the first openly gay elected governor, two women of Muslim origin
in Michigan and Minnesota, Jahana Hayes, the first woman of African-American
origin to be elected by Connecticut to the House of Representatives, two Texan
women of Latino origin in the congress for the first time, Ayanna Pressley,
first African-American woman in the congress by Massachusetts, two more elected
women of Native American origin in Kansas and New Mexico, among others who seem
to leave a clear signal, that in the face of Trump's intolerance, tolerance,
youth and diversity, more than political ideology, are those that continue to
make inroads in this country of migrants.
As part of
the analysis we can point out those points that Trump attacked at the
beginning, have been precisely those that have led to a partial defeat, racism,
intolerance, misogyny, have found their nemesis in the diversity and strong
push of the women candidates, who seem to define themselves as the true bet
against Trump in 2020, the possibilities that a woman, or a candidate of
diverse origin, seems to give signs of what could come in the future, a frontal
clash that will define the future in a country with half the population fearful
of that diversity, taking hold of its white roots, and another half of migrant
origin that is taking ownership of the country, a narrative that the Democratic
Party should embrace, analyze and seek to exploit in the next two years in
order to definitively reverse the damage caused by Trump's nationalist
populism.
Another
important point is the youth, we will remember the Trump team predominantly
made up of elderly officials, another signal to be taken into account in the
midterm elections, it is a strong arrival of women mainly under 30 who have
managed to capture the favor of a youth that may have felt displaced by many of
Trump's policies, Bernie Sanders's "democratic socialism" is timidly
peeled, as a figure that is not very well defined, but one that is coherent and
open enough to break with a rancid nationalism and a harmful protectionism,
they could be another asset for the battle that is coming in two more years,
and that Trump should not take for granted.
