Globalization Triumphs in Russia
Globalization Triumphs in Russia

Just a
couple of years ago the issue of immigration was at the center of discussions
in Europe, in France, the so-called National Front in charge of the Le Pen
seemed to impose itself as a xenophobic force in search of boosting nationalist
and anti-political sentiment of integration of the European Union, the triumph
of the liberal Emmanuel Macron gave a necessary breath to liberalism and
internationalism that seemed to succumb to nationalist events such as the
Brexit and the rise of the right-wing rulers in the countries identified as the
"visegrad" .
The process
of creating a new identity in France has been complicated, punctuated by
episodes of racism and terrorist violence, augmented by radical phenomena such
as the rise of the now depleted Islamic State, the triumph of the French
national soccer team in the Russian World Cup, It seems to become a sign of the
rise of a new identity in this country, integrating strongly migrants from the
once colonies of this country, migrants from Cameroon, Algeria, the Congo, Mali
and Senegal who undoubtedly have reinforced in an important way the soccer
squad that enjoys in the last decades a remarkable hegemony between the best
teams in the world.
More
significant is the triumph of France against a representative squad of Croatia
that has shown a lot of heart on the court, but its exacerbated nationalism
resulting from a historic process of "Balkanization", or internal
divisionism within a previously integrated unit, with a marked origin in the
Yugoslavia of the enormous Tito, united with blood and fire and that will
propitiate a cruel war between its components when the authoritarian regime
that united them artificially fell, it is significant to see a racially
integrated squad, to impose itself before a racially segregated one, all this in
the bosom of a conservative Russia that seems to seek to impose as a hegemonic
current, nationalism, and abate the advance of globalization, migration and the
creation of new identities resulting from racial integration.
It will be
difficult to see this in a country like the United States of America, with a
racist tradition that has curbed part of this integration and progress,
omnipresent in several states of that country, while in Mexico it seems to be a
curious process to consider to migrants from Central and South America who seek
to cross the country to reach the US, the consideration of creating a border
patrol, not to restrict entry to the southern states of the country, and its
location in the northern states would seem to speak of a strategy of
containment and a possible integration of migrants in the dynamic economy of
the country, which could bring some changes to be observed in the social life
of Mexico.
For now,
migration and globalization seem to have triumphed before nationalism,
xenophobia and "balkanization".
